John noticed in this historical photo, that the seat was a tufted style, not the style they were currently using. He suggested returning the chairs to their original state. And so it began, each chair would get a tufted seat and back.
The original upholstery on the chairs was in need of replacement and updating.

Henry Shaw Dining Chairs
Based on a historical photo shown in this gallery, courtesy of Missouri Botanical Garden Archives, Zollingers determined the chairs originally had a tufted seat. The client wanted to return the chairs to their original condition and style. All the chairs were handled by one upholsterer to insure continuity in the tufting.
